What’s New?

January 18th, 2010

First of all, on behalf of everybody at MGP, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. We sincerely hope that everyone is doing well and  that everyone enjoyed the holidays.

Now that the new year has arrived, I would like to take a few moments to let everyone know about some new innovations that we have been steadily developing over the past several months. Not only is it our goal to provide our customers with the very best connecting rods money can buy, it is also our duty to continually make our connecting rods better. It is our dedication to perfection that allows us to set the industry standard at a higher level.

Our latest development in connecting rod technology is a rather simple concept. So simple in fact, we are embarassed that we did not come up with it a long time ago. For quite some time now it has been the industry standard to place the connecting rod’s oil hole at the very top of the rod.  This makes perfect sense for any engine with an inline configuration where the connecting rods ride vertically up and down. Think about a V-8 for a moment. The connecting rods in a ”V” configured engine are not oriented in a vertical fashion, but rather sit in the engine at a 45 degree angle. Because the connecting rod rests in the engine at a 45 degree angle, a standard oil hole placed on the very top of the connecting rod will be shielded by the piston and there is a risk of starving the wrist pin and pin bore of engine oil. The solution to the problem is simple. Instead of placing the oil hole at top dead center of the connecting rod, we are now placing the oil hole offset from top dead center by 45 degrees. With the oil hole clocked in the 45 degree position it will be closer to the pin boss opening and therefore will be more accessible to splash and spray oiling. Furthermore, the oil groove within the pin bore distributes oil evenly accross the wrist pin.  45 degree oiling is now avaiable as a standard feature on all of our models, except those that require a conventional oil hole on top of the rod and those that are pressure fed. Because the 45 degree oiling feature is a standard, there is no additional cost for our customers. We are confident that the 45 degree oiling feature will become an industry standard, one of which other manufacturers will be forced to adopt.

Since implementing the use of 45 degree oiling, we have been hard at work on our newest developments  in pin bore finish technology. Stay tuned over the coming months to learn more about Hard Bore Technology and how it is changing the industry standard as we know it.
